During 2020 all NCI stations closed for two months at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. On re-opening most stations were single-crewed for the rest of the year.

47205 28/08/2023 NCI Rame Head Distorted MayDay heard on Ch16 from vessel reported to be near Rame Head. NCI looked for vessel in distress - negative. HMCG informed. CG attempted to contact vessel, and asked to call 999, but , neither request was answered. Incident downgraded to Pan Pan, W/K walked to look along shore - nothing seen, CG informed. 47469 27/08/2023 NCI Bembridge NCI informed HMCG a RIB, 8 POB, had run aground on ledge. NCI requested to monitor. 2 persons tried to reflect RIB from water - unsuccessful. ILB tasked ,and transferred casualties to LB station., NCI informed CG that rising tide had almost refloated RIB but crew not returned. Station closed, RIB was afloat but no-one had returned. 47139 22/08/2023 NCI Swanage HMCG asked NCI for visual on paddle boarder in difficulty, following 999 call from MOP. Visual established, PB was near 2 kayakers and RIB. NCI asked to monitor and Pan Pan issued asking vessels , to check. RIB contacted CG to sat they thought second PB was the problem. ILB tasked to check PBs who said they were fine. Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire. 

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
