CAPE CORNWALL EXERCISE WITH RNLI SENNEN COVE

2nd October 2016. On Sunday morning Cape Cornwall conducted their annual training exercise with Sennen Cove RNLI. This exercise forms part of the stations Declared Facility Status assessment.

The exercise consisted of the Sennen Cove lifeboat, City of London III, dropping a Dann bouy and then retreating about a mile in a random direction. The watch keepers at Cape Cornwall then guided the lifeboat back to the ‘casualty’ by radio until they were able to retrieve it. They would then drop it in another location and repeat the process. This exercise gave valuable practice to both the Cape Cornwall watch keepers and the lifeboat crew in working together. The crew of the Sennen Cove lifeboat also kindly took two of the Cape Cornwall watch keepers on board during the exercise to act as observers.

Peter Munday, the Operations Manager at NCI Cape Cornwall, said “The weather was perfect and we exercised for almost two hours with the Lifeboat. All of the guys gave a good account of themselves and a very worthwhile and successful exercise took place. My thanks go to to Roland Mannering, Richard Saynor and the two Duty Watchkeepers Jason Wason and Paul Tovey for their participation. Thanks also to Peter Winterson who kept the numerous visitors amused and out of the Watch Station during the exercise”.
