This Station is currently under development and will be opening Spring / Summer 2021.
The idea of establishing a National Coastwatch Institution watch station at St Donat's Bay on the South Wales coast, overlooking the Bristol Channel was first discussed in October 2019 as part of the Sea Front development project at Atlantic College. Since then, discussions and site visits have taken place between the NCI and the college with approval for the project being agreed by both groups in Spring 2020. Atlantic College has kindly agreed to completely renovate the two existing towers along the sea wall with one to be used as a fully operational NCI lookout and the other to be used as a training facility.
Both parties insisted that, in common with NCI stations nationally, the lookout at St Donat's Bay will be managed by volunteers from the local community, with additional support from the staff at the college. Students from the college will have the opportunity to join NCI as Cadets and participate with watchkeeping activities.. As part of the NCI, St Donats Bay will report to the local Coast Guard Operations Centre at Milford Haven.
This project has been unavoidably delayed by the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic and is still in the early stages of development. However, we have launched a recruiting campaign and are looking for people within the local community who would be interested in becoming watchkeepers and would like to join and support the team at NCI St Donat's Bay for this exciting development.
No previous experiance is required as training will be provided, to email for more information Click_here
