16 October 2023 Sophie Skipper has successfully completed the annual Eden Project marathon, running 26.2 miles across Cornwall’s beautiful but rugged and hilly terrain.

It’s a super tough challenge and Sophie has achieved an amazingly finish time of 5 hours!

Sophie chose to combine the marathon challenge with fundraising for the National Coastwatch Institution and she’s already raised over £300 which will go directly towards supporting our volunteers who are working every day to help us keep people safe around the coast.

Donations are still coming in and there is still time to show your support and contribute to her Just Giving fundraiser.

“The NCI’s amazing volunteers do a virtual marathon every day, watching out to help keep people safe around the coast. They always give me such a warm welcome when I pop into the stations and so it’s an obvious way to thank them all,” she explained.

If you like a challenge and you want to combine it with supporting a lifesaving charity, then you can choose the National Coastwatch Institution as your chosen charity at JustGiving.com and make a difference.

Currently almost 60 NCI stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

NCI watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the NCI ensures that high standards are met.

The words National Coastwatch Institution and Eyes Along the Coast and the NCI logos are Registered Trademarks of NCI.
