PORTLAND HOTEL TO HOST FESTIVE FAIR TO AID NATIONAL COASTWATCH

10th November 2017. Christmas is coming to NCI Portland earlier than expected this year.

Residents and visitors to the island will soon have the opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and even smells of the festive season as the island’s flagship hotel, The Heights, is opening their doors for a unique event. This December the Portland Festive Fair will arrive at the hotel, running from Friday, December 1st until Sunday, December 3rd.

The fair will be raising money for two vital charities in the area, the National Coastwatch at Portland and Muntsy's - a service offering daily facilities for adults with additional needs or learning disabilities who wish to develop their independence.

The photograph (courtesy of the Dorset Echo) shows Mike Deadman and Jessica Orchard from the Heights hotel getting into the festive spirit.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
