NELLS POINT VOLUNTEERS ASSIST BARRY COASTGUARD IN RESCUE

16th June 2019. Two swimmers were rescued by Barry Dock lifeboat after being spotted by watchkeepers from NCI Nells Point.

The volunteers in the National Coastwatch Institution's watchtower, in Nell’s Point, Barry Island, spotted four swimmers struggling against an ebbing tide in the Bristol Channel. They alerted Barry Coastguard and the RNLI all weather lifeboat, Inner Wheel II and inshore lifeboat Frances Corscaden both launched around 6.30pm on Saturday.

Two swimmers had managed to get themselves back to shore and the watchkeepers helped the lifeboat crew locate the remaining two struggling swimmers approximately ¼ of a mile off the headland before returning them to Barry harbour. All four were uninjured and no hospital treatment was required.
