NCI VOLUNTEERS ATTEND BUCKINGHAM PALACE GARDEN PARTY

21st May 2019. Her Majesty the Queen recognised the work of the National Coastwatch Institution by inviting some of our volunteers to the garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Linda Lawrence from the Operation Support Group and husband Peter together with Neil Hunt from Shoreham NCI and his wife Julie spent an amazing and proud day representing the NCI at Buckingham Palace Garden Party. Linda said “The gardens are magnificent and vast. When the Queen arrived at 16:00 everyone was in total awe of her, she was so calm and serene. Then Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge came with Prince Edward and the Duke of Kent, so everything couldn’t have been more perfect”.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
