NCI STATIONS GET READY FOR NATIONAL COASTWATCH DAY

27th August 2021. The first National Coastwatch Day takes place on Saturday 28th August and many of our 57 stations are hosting fundraising and open day events around the coastline of England and Wales.

From ‘virtual’ tours of their stations to Open Days and stalls at local events, our stations are celebrating National Coastwatch Day 2021 in a variety of different ways. Many stations have even taken to the airways on local radio to promote our special day.

Look up your local station to see what the volunteer watchkeepers are doing to celebrate National Coastwatch day and pop along to your local NCI event to help them raise much needed funds, learn more about what we do or see how you could volunteer as a Watchkeeper.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
