NCI AT THE NORTHERN BOAT SHOW

5th June 2019. This weekend the 2019 Northern Boat Show took place in Liverpool and NCI was there to support it.

The Northern Boat Show ran from Friday 31st May to Sunday 2nd June as part of the annual River Mersey Festival and the National Coastwatch Institutions exhibition trailer was there to showcase what we do and to celebrate the first 25 years of our organisation. This was the first outing of the trailer displaying its new 25th anniversary and it was manned by NCI Trustees Mike Byrne and Tim Colquhoun supported by a team of watchkeepers from NCI Rossall Point.

There were a number of ‘Tall Ships’ at the Boat Show which allowed the NCI and MAST (Merseyside Apprentice Sail Training) to agree to future support which will benefit both organisations. There were also a number of enquiries from visitors about becoming watchkeepers in North Wales, especially at the new station on the Great Orme.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
