NCI HENGISTBURY HEAD SHOW THAT NCI STATION MANAGERS WILL DO (ALMOST) ANYTHING TO RAISE FUNDS.

5th September 2021. Some of our Station Managers do go above and beyond to raise funds for their stations.

Peter Holway, the Station Manager at NCI Hengistbury Head was approached by a friend who lives in, and is the Director of, a housing complex in Christchurch.  This lady has been fighting the Council to try and get, amongst other things, the weeds and nettles cleared along the riverbank.  And so, of course, Peter got in on the action and sorted it himself.  A local pub, The King's Arms, has also asked Peter if he would clear the bank on their stretch of the river and this work is scheduled to begin the week beginning 13th September.  Both the housing complex and the pub are donating to NCI Hengistbury Head in lieu of payment to Peter for his hard work.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
