CHARITY COLLECTION IS A MASSIVE SUCCESS FOR NCI LEE-ON-THE SOLENT

14th October 2017. The National Coastwatch station at Lee-on-Solent has thanked local shoppers for the success of a recent collection in a local supermarket

Members of the Lee-on-the-Solent station of the National Coastwatch Institution raised £298.97 from a collection at the ASDA store in Newgate Lane, Fareham. Mike Bowers from the NCI branch said: ‘The money will be used to help meet our running expenses and support NCI nationally in widening its activities. We would like to thank the staff of ASDA in Newgate Lane and their generous shoppers for their support.’

The Lee-on-the-Solent National Coastwatch station is manned by 70 volunteers who ensure that a watch is kept every day of the year from their lookout on the Beach Road car park.

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire. 

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
